Student Katie Chan recently transferred from East Los Angeles College. She is a first-generation student currently studying Sociology. Check out what tips she has for incoming transfers! 1) Stay on top of your academics and keep your GPA high. Get involved through clubs, organizations, or find something you are passionate about! If you had done both of these, you should have a smooth time writing your Personal Insight Questions! Also, you should have fun throughout your years at community college.

2) Since middle school, my dream school was UCLA. During high school, I got really bad GPA's during sophomore and junior year (basically the 2 most important years). Senior year came around and I applied to 0 universities because I was committed to attend East Los Angeles College. Community college was a fresh start to my life and GPA. Fast forward to university application time, I was having a 1-on-1 with my counselor and she asked "How come you are not applying to any UC's? Your GPA will definitely get you in!" I thought about it some more then I eventually listened to my counselor and applied to some UC's. I was accepted to all of the UC's I applied to and was waitlisted to UCLA. I had already SIR'd to UCSB and was planning on moving on a Saturday in July. The Friday before I was going to move, I got off the waitlist for UCLA! At the end of the day, everything is meant to happen the way it did. Thank you for sharing Katie, can't wait to see what you will accomplish your first year at UCLA!
