Kayhlia Yang is anything but a regular Transfer from Irvine Valley College. She was accepted to all of the 7 UC schools she applied to. She says there are so many reasons why she chose UCLA, but decided it was for her after she attended Bruin Day.
Kayhlia says, "At the time I knew I wanted to stay in Southern California for school but after visiting I realized that if I did not choose UCLA I was cutting myself short of an experience I knew I’d regret if I did not take the leap. UCLA was of course my #1 school to begin with but I had no intentions of actually getting accepted. Everything UCLA has to offer is amazing."
Higher education is very important to her because after you get your degree no one can take that accomplishment away from you. As a Southeast Asian American, she wants to help her SEA community and she knows that after getting her degree she will be able to help more efficiently and effectively. She also states, "These relationships and experiences you build during this time of your life really helps shape who your are and you just learn so much from it." Now, she is pursuing a bachelors degree in English.
Like an awesome transfer she does have some tips for you all
My best tips for transferring to UCLA is while at community college look at your resources there! See what the transfer center at your community college can do to help, and reach out to UCLA to see what programs they have for you currently to help you transfer. I joined CCCP Classic Site during Summer 2018 and was able to gain a lot more insight to the transfer process to UCLA, it helped me tremendously. So I say take advantage of every resource you have and use it to the fullest extent. For students thinking of transferring to UCLA, never give up on yourself. Continue to push and strive for success. It’s not where you start it’s where you end!
Kayhlia you are a transfer rock star and we're so excited to see you thrive in the future.
