Learn more about her unique transfer story:
I am a first-generation and non-traditional transfer! I took a 5-year gap from college and worked at various companies, such as managing a SF bakery and working at Facebook headquarters! My parents never went to college and my grandparents raised me and my siblings. I didn’t do well at my first college because of the 2007-2008 financial crisis and finding a job took forever. I have always supported myself financially since I was 15-years old, and now I’m finally getting my degree at 30! Everyone is younger than me and thinks I have my life together, it might seem like that but trust me, my life was difficult in my early 20s!
Check out how involved Stephanie was her first year at UCLA and this year:
I am highly involved in the transfer community! My first year I was a Community Representative for UCLA ResLife in Holly (Transfer Dorm) and I worked with my RA as the Celebration Coordinator! I joined the Nikkei Student Union (NSU) and interned for two positions, I was also part of the Transfer Student Representative Office under USAC in the Events Committee and I volunteered at the UCLA Transfer Student Center! THIS year, I am working at the UCLA Transfer Student Center! I am also President and Co-Founder for Association of First-Generation Undergraduates, as well as the Director of Events at the Transfer Student Representative office. I also am a Transfer Mentor and am excited to support my first-year transfer mentees! Last year I won the superlative, “Most involved on campus!” After I graduate, I plan on getting into Human Resources, but I would love to keep helping and supporting students, especially transfers!
